Beginning April 4, all visitors to Fort George G. Meade will be required to obtain a one-day or multi-day pass. Visitors may no longer simply drive through the vehicle inspection station at the Reece Road gate.
The U.S. Army is increasing the standards for accessing all Army installations. Garrison Commander Col. Brian Foley said that Fort Meade has been gradually increasing access control standards. The final procedure that the Garrison will implement beginning on April 4 is to require all short term visitors to obtain an access pass.
“Now, if you are coming on, even just for a one-day event, we are going to have to start issuing passes,” Col. Foley said. “That means that people coming on are now going to have to physically go into the Visitor Control Center and wait in line to get a temporary one-day access pass.”
As part of the changes, the new operating hours of the Visitor Control Center will be from 6:30 am to 9 pm, Monday through Friday. If you know that you are coming onto the installation, Col. Foley suggests that you plan ahead and register for your access pass in advance.
